This article investigates how the concept of Black becoming (devenir negro), as addressed in Critique of Black Reason by Achille Mbembe, in dialogue with the Black Hermeneutics proposed by Adilson Moreira, contributes to a critical understanding of the institutional Blackening (enegrecimento) of the Public Defender’s Office. It begins with the recognition that Law, far from being neutral, is permeated by power structures that have historically reproduced racial inequalities. Adopting a qualitative and bibliographic approach, the study articulates foundations of contemporary political philosophy with the functioning of justice institutions, examining how the colonial legacy and structural racism shape institutional practices. Supported by Mbembe's critical framework, the article advocates for the Blackening of the Public Defender’s Office not merely as a measure of inclusion, but as a strategy of institutional decolonization, capable of promoting an emancipatory legal system committed to Black populations.
